Film Learning Resources - Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5

Our daughter joined Marie’s photography and film club in infant school and was instantly infected by her passion for the subject. We felt very fortunate to have a teacher whose skills went beyond academic, being an industry and well connected professional.

Resources below are to support and give a glimpse into my private tutoring sessions. Further tailored resources are available for each pupil who undertakes tutoring with me to support their development in Film Studies. I continually keep an eye on Key Stage developments and update my resources to reflect any changes.

Making Short Films

There are three main stages to making any film. Learn more in the link below.

Pre-production -before filming starts. Collecting ideas and workout how to make the film. Spending plenty of time at this stage, will save hours or days later on

Production - the actual filming part

Post-production - edit the film together, add or edit sound and titles, and get it ready to show to people

Taking Film Knowledge Further…

Highly interactive and practical resources which expand on Key Stage 2 knowledge of pre-production, production and post-production.

Students are supported to start contextualising their own films and continue to develop practical film techniques such as camera angles, rule of thirds and storyboarding. Drawing on analysis of whole films and clips, and expanding knowledge of cinematography, lighting, editing on Premiere Pro, mise en scene and sound. Students will have opportunities to work with film professionals and potential for film schools.

Pupils will examine a range of eras and countries to the silent era to the contemporary. There will be in-depth case studies.
